Witchfynde- 10-08-2004
Since I just got on board here today, I don't know anybody yet...but do YOU really know everyone either? I'll bet you don't! (Don't worry, not ALL of my posts will be this big though!)

So, with that in mind, feel free to add or delete whatever parts you like. The new person shall go first:

Name: Witchfynde

Real name: Darryl

Other internet alias': Witchfinder General (cool eh?), FatalRewind, Darryl B.

Place of Origin/Currently living in: Houston, Texas

Sex: currently not enough...oh, THAT sex! Well, I'm a male dude!

Occupation/work interests: Career transition/resumes, but I mostly temp and do contract work in the meantime, just doing general office stuff

Interests: I have a rare illness that currently limits things (a lack of money is another factor), so most of the following is in regards to things I either used to do or would like to take up once I'm well and/or have money coming in: drumming, biking, indoor rock climbing, bowling, movies, writing (songwriting, mostly), women of all shapes, races and sizes (except for those in the "Lardbutt" and over category)

Dislikes: liars, backstabbers, people who don't listen to THE simplest thing after it's been explained 500 times, Houston's god-awful heat 90% of the year, Willard Scott

Favorite movie of all time: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Runners up: True Believer (my previous "favorite movie of all time" for 12 years until Rings came out), all Star Wars (some more than others), The Fugitive, Toy Story (both), The Iron Giant (ruled!!!!), City Slickers, Keeping the Faith, Freaky Friday (2003 version, believe it or not...man, that was damn funny!) and Rumble in the Bronx for their hilarity, Titanic, RoboCop (THE best cyborg movie EVER made...NOTHING has matched the action, ideas, etc. since), Holes (just hang in there after the first 10 minutes, it's pretty stupid, but it gets WAY better afterwards), The Ring (American remake, haven't seen Japanese original yet), 28 Days Later (MAN that was scary! "Horror" movies hardly *ever* scare me, but that one did!)

Currently watches: Star Trek Enterprise (more or less, I currently don't have a tv), King of the Hill, Just Shoot Me (just cancelled last year, actually)

All time favorite tv shows: Babylon 5 (despite the low budget, the BEST sci-fi series EVER!!), The Critic (too bad it didn't last any more than two seasons), Reboot, Night Court, Red Green (PBS), Hill Street Blues, Married...With Morons (uh, CHILDREN, that is!)

What?! There's other places than this Coroner site? (Other internet places of personal interest)

Classic Gaming I've written several of their Game of the Week articles, but if you join up, don't bother with one for the moment, for some reason they're not being updated any more (might have something to do with GameSpy, who owns them). Other than that, there's plenty of stuff in regards to Classic Computers, Consoles, Games, a Lounge, Emulation, etc. forums, and tons of other things in the main site as well.

Atari Age If you want to get rid of old games, sell or trade, it's not just all Atari, you can also deal with Vectrex, Intellivision, various personal computers, Colecovision, PC, etc. games as well. I made over 20 transactions there myself and only two of them were delayed--one my fault; whups, the other, due to weather delay (what is this "snow" stuff I hear about? Those of us in Texas don't understand this myth )--with barely a hitch. Just beware that there's quite a few people on there that have the attitude of "I'm right, and if you have a different opinion, you're an a-hole" in the off-topic-type, and political forums, which is one of the reasons why I left.

imdb The Internet Movie DataBase has all kinds of stuff in regards to movies and tv; best part are the Goofs in movies that you didn't realize, the bad part is a lot of mistakes and bad info going around, so don't believe everything you read.

Unofficial Coroner site Site of the late great death metal band Coroner.

I'm also an administrator at a friend's heavy metal site; just send me a PM if you're interested in joining, and I'll ask and then send you the site address (it's nothing personal, but we came from Atari Age, and he wants to screen people first to make sure they're not jerks). His site also has over 60 metal reviews (most done by myself, and I've got lots more to do!), which are open to contributions, but that part of his site is gone for the moment as he searches around for a new dot com to store them (new provider won't give any more than five megs of space; whoopie!).

So what do I look like anyway?

If you go to this page here Atari Age photos, and look at about the third post from the top, you'll see a photo of me and my, uh, "tools" (don't worry, it's work safe; you'll see what I mean!), a couple of video game systems and all. (And a current photo just taken a couple of months ago [sheesh, two are video game related! What a game geek!] can be seen here: emailaddresses.com photo members page [guess who *I* am on that page!])

So what do I SOUND like then?

If you go here voice clip, and click on the link on post #10, that's me, but I don't have a deep, sexy voice or anything; sorry.

True pieces of personal trivia:

I wasn't born with what's commonly called "webbed feet", but two toes on each foot never fully separated. (Don't know what it's called--I was told it once and forgot [should've written it down, I guess]--need to Google...)

I'm not left-handed, but I do several things with my left hand, like eat left-handed, use the tv remotes, and play some old video games (like Scramble) left-handed that have buttons on both sides of the joystick (my mom's right-handed, but my dad left, so that's where I got it from).

I have very excellent hearing; don't let the small ears fool you!

You remember that HORRIBLE Y2K incident when everything went to hell and the human race almost totally annihilated itself? Oh, that's right, nothing really happened. This is a fact, though: I actually own a piece of machinery that was affected by the Y2K bug. My vcr can't record programs anymore...which I noticed 10 days AFTER 2000 hit, so there's no way it could've been anything else, as all it's other functions still work. I can still record manually but the timer doesn't work anymore. So when it eventually dies I'm going to keep it since it's a museum piece.

About myself, in a nutshell: Kind of hard to describe yourself, you know? I like being by myself (especially with my current living situation, as I had to move back in with my parents)/am independent (somewhat), computers, gadgets, and games, drumming, MUSIC IS LIFE!! It would take five pages to describe all the kinds of music I have, so I won't bother (just to BARELY tap into it involves from heavy metal with folk to heavy metal with opera to dark ambient to new age to Indian music to video game music [yeah, I know! Go figure!], etc.). Looooove digital photography! Even though I'll never work in the legal field again I will probably always have an interest in law. Love animals, especially dogs and cats. I've also been published as a local writer, mostly as a movie critic, and would like to get back into songwriting again.

Guess that's about it...

I'm a high school teacher (yes, really). Teach a lot of science and a little math. Sometimes, if the students are behaving themselves, we listen to a little rock 'n' roll during class, as long as there's no foul language in the lyrics... wink.gif It's amazing to me how many kids just keep coming back to the old favorites: Sabbath, Priest, Slayer, Maiden, etc. Good music is timeless. I'm still trying to convince them that Metallica is a dead horse, however... rolleyes.gif

I dig all kinds of music - jazz, funk, and other stuff, although metal will always be my fave. It is obvious to me now that I will never "grow out of it"...

My first cassette: Def Leppard "Pyromania"
My first CD: Slayer "Reign In Blood"
My first heavy metal T-shirt: Dio "Holy Diver"

My "resume" is nowhere as comprehensive as Witchfynde's, but this is something, anyway...

What about the rest of y'all?

Yeah, I'm going to do a part 2 of "ever freak someone out with your music collection?", doing non-metal only. So I already have a guess as to what YOU'RE going to put into it biggrin.gif

Ditto here, about metal always being my favorite/I'll never grow out of it either (funny how boneheads say over the years that I'll get tired of it and quit listening to it...WRONG! Since I was a freshman in high school, and still going strong, over 15 years since I graduated, sucka!), but my other favorite music is new age, believe it or not (the GOOD stuff, not the John Tesh crap). Also like Indian music, video game music, dark ambient, all kinds of stuff...

Interesting list there, let's see:

Cassette: Mama's Boys Power and Passion
My first CD: Candlemass' Ancient Dreams...pretty different there, a heavy metal band with an opera singer!
T-shirt: Hmmm, lord, hard to remember...maybe a Zebra one.

Well, it takes a while to do wink.gif But I do it on every forum I join, so I've had a bit of practice with it smile.gif

Hello People... Good to read your intro's smile.gif It was interesting stuff.

Ok... Since I'll be here a lot... Let me try one of these intro's as well.

Ok.... I'm basically an underground filmmaker... I've been branching off into photography lately as well... Filmmaking is a bit of a bitch at times but it's an addiction all the same and I'm sure I'll be doing it for quite awhile.. Photography is a nice change of pace (more laid back and relaxing) and I hope to keep busy with it.

Music... Witchfinder General is my all time favorite band... I've been hooked on em since I heard their Burning a Sinner/Satan's Children single back when it was first released. It was one of those rare, only happens once in a very long while moments where something just clicks perfectly with ya and for me that's what happened with WFG... I actually got into doing the filmmaking gig because of WFG.

Other music I'm into... Mainly Sabbath influenced bands like Count Raven and Northwinds (who in my opinion are the 2nd coming of WFG)... I also really like some psychedelic bands with Liquid Sound Company and the Virgineers being at the top of my list... I'm also a huge fan of the NWOBHM scene (Legend, Buffalo, Wrathchild, Demon, Witchfynde, Shiva, Diamond Head etc)... Speaking of such.. I actually caught a Diamond Head video on VH-1 Classic recently which was really wild as I had no clue that they'd done any.. It's a shame WFG never got around to making a vid (at least as far as I know they didn't). I also really like Badfinger and Concrete Blonde.

Oh first album I bought was Anvil's debut... What the hell was that disc called??? Hard and Heavy maybe??

Favorite movies... The Trip is probably my favorite and is followed closely by a film called Performance (which starred Mick Jagger if there's any Stones fans here who might be interested)... I also really love Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Psych Out, Alice in Acidland, Mantis in Lace and pretty much EVERY other psychedelic flick that came out in the late 60's/early 70's... I also like quite a few horror/exploitation flicks as well... Mainly stuff pre 1982.. I loved The Wicker Man, Dawn of the Dead (all the Dead flicks actually), Motel Hell, Lat House on Dead End Street... I also really love Pink Floyd's The Wall and the Fritz the Cat films.

Other interests... Basically anything to do with the LSD/Hippie scene of the 60's. Psychedelic's pretty much fascinate me... I'm also a huge Boxing fan and all around Mike Tyson fanatic.

Let's see... Video games have been mentioned in this thread... Sadly all the arcade games I enjoyed are pretty much long forgotten... I liked games like Make Trax, Burger Time, Zaxxon, the various Pac Man games... Frogger... Those early 80's games... A select few have made it to Playstation which is cool but most (sadly) are probably gone and forgotten forever.

What else? Um... I live in Florida... I'm married... Have a daughter (who has been raised on WFG and actually believe's that I'm Zeeb from WFG biggrin.gif )

Anyway... That's me and it's cool to be here and to have the chance to BS with all of YOU other WFG fanatics.

Witchfynde- 10-10-2004
First off, before I forget, I noticed your birthday was today, so I hope it was a happy one! biggrin.gif Hey, I'm almost exactly one year older than you...my birthday's *next* month biggrin.gif

*A* video, as in a single, or a concert show? Wow, that'd be cool to see one...or was it new? I know they got back together and came out with an album several years ago, dunno if they've done any since...

Oh, I very much doubt they'll be "gone and forgotten forever" wink.gif For a fairly big place like Florida, there will probably be a classic convention popping up any year now, since retro has been becoming "in" the last few years biggrin.gif There's Philly Classic, Cinci Classic, some Tennessee Classic, the first ever Austin Classic was last year, and even here in Houston we've got an arcade one as well...few others I'm forgetting...

Cool that you mentioned the semi-obscure one of Make Trax, that was a cool game biggrin.gif Frogger was at that convention I went to in June, and the only Pac game was the pinball/video game hybrid of Baby Pac-Man. Unfortunately it was kind of screwed up, since each time I hit *one* or more drop targets, the entire row popped right back up! That wasn't right... blink.gif

Have a daughter (who has been raised on WFG and actually believe's that I'm Zeeb from WFG biggrin.gif

(Whups, accidentally cut off the last quote) And just *how* do you explain the topless women on the album covers, hmmm? wink.gif

In a round about way I guess... I was big time into WFG and I said to myself one day that I'd love to make a flick and fill it with WFG music... I also loved the story that was told in the track "Friends of Hell" and when I finally got around to writing a script... It was all based on inspiration from that song... Looking back.. I doubt I ever would've went into the film making gig had I not been a WFG fanatic... Thus I always credit the band as being my inspiration to pursue an artistc venture as I doubt I ever would've done it without the inspiration.

It was actually a single video for the song "Call Me"... It looked like it was probably from like "82" or "83" and it was definately cool to see it on that channel (during their metal show)... If I'm not mistaken, they actually had a concert video out back in the early 80's... I'm almost positive I saw something like that in an old issue of Kerrapppp.

LHODES is a pretty psychotic flick about a merry bunch who decide to start making snuff vid's.. It's pretty much based on the Manson murders... It's a pretty notorious flick so I'm sure your pen pal will probably know well about it... It got a nice DVD release some time back.. Not sure if it's still available tho...

That's very cool! Yes, I've always thought the same thing, especially with the end, when the demons are "shouting from under the soil"; brrrr!

I've also thought one VERY different movie could be made about one of the first lawyers ever, defending a client during a witch trial back then...but if it isn't done just right, it'd come out seeming funny though tongue.gif There haven't been movies made that took place during that time period either way though, that's for sure!

Ha ha! All depends on where you're from, or where you COME from, since I've read stats on countries (or maybe it was just one of the countries that does this) that show full-frontal nudity on tv...so, they must have a pretty deviate society, right? Wrong! Their teen pregnancy rates and all are very low...my guess is that, with that kind of stuff being on all the time, people get bored with it, and it's nothing to them...

Actually, with just copying and all, you're already halfway there!

This system is actually a bit strange, as I've never seen a site before where the part where you can copy a quote appears on a different screen, and then the part that you actually need to do it is when you do a preview!

So anyway, you have to copy it during the preview screen. You have to copy the full quote if you're going to reply to several parts of it, including the quote tags (which are in brackets). Lets say in order to do this, you're responding to this conversation:

Steveboy

I mean, what's the deal with Lucas anyway? Jar Jar was SUCH a boob...meh. I mean, I *like* boobs, but I'm talking about something else when I say that tongue.gif

Once you get to the preview page, copy the whole thing, including the quote tags, but when you're responding to the first part, just highlight and delete the rest, keeping the start and end quote tags, which will look something like this, but just replace the parenthesis with brackets, since this might be the kind of system where I put in brackets, I might get an error message:

(quote) Steveboy

I mean, what's the deal with Lucas anyway? Jar Jar was SUCH a boob...meh. I mean, I *like* boobs, but I'm talking about something else when I say that tongue.gif (quote)

So copy and paste the whole thing, but leave out the third sentence...you can highlight it and hit delete, and it won't mess up what you copied the first time around, so it'll look somethinglike this, and then reply:

(quote Steveboy)

I mean, what's the deal with Lucas anyway? Jar Jar was SUCH a boob...meh. I mean, I *like* boobs, but I'm talking about something else when I say that tongue.gif

Witchfinder: I don't think Jar Jar was THAT bad; he didn't even have that many lines. If you're not used to cutsy stuff in the Star Wars movies, why watch them? After all, 3P0 was very anal, and he's in every one, there were the Ewoks, and lets not even go into the very stupid scene in Empire with that huge creature that could live in the fast cold depths of space...bleah!

Then copy and paste the whole thing again to address the second part, but leave out the first that you already answered:

(quote Steveboy)

I mean, I *like* boobs, but I'm talking about something else when I say that tongue.gif

Witchfinder: Same here, being a guy and all wink.gif

Hey, speaking of which, you ever heard of a British 80s heavy metal band called Witchfinder General? Just look up their two full length album covers to see what I mean about that tongue.gif

All it takes is some practice, and you'll have it in no time at all (unless the above doesn't make any sense wink.gif)

Fuzz- 10-11-2004
Well, one thing's for sure, fellas... I can't bust out the WFG album covers on my high school students! huh.gif We have to stick to the less "racy" stuff when we listen to tunes during class... if I want to keep my job, that is...

Thought I might tell y'all a little old bedtime story about how I discovered WFG... yawn...

This would've been back in '88 or '89, when I was 16 or 17 and working as a dishwasher in our town's only fancy restaurant. We had these guys working as cooks who were pretty wild - a couple of years older, in college (or taking time off from college biggrin.gif ), and I totally looked up to them. One of them asked me if I'd ever heard of WFG, since he knew I was a metalhead. When I said I hadn't, he made me a tape, and I was blown away! Their music really spoke to me at that point in my life, for whatever reason. Later on, he brought in Death Penalty on red vinyl (I think) and Friends of Hell on white vinyl and let me borrow them for a week or so. I made a better quality tape from the records and worshipped it for years. Finally, around '95 or '96, I discovered CD versions that Amazon.com were selling and bought them immediately!

I was always bummed that I discovered them only after they had stopped making music. I was into metal when WFG was around, but I was pretty much limited to what I saw on MTV (back when it was a decent station that actually showed metal videos). You know, Def Lep, Dio, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest - all the staples. More underground stuff like WFG was beyond me, especially since I was pretty young at that time (like 10 or 11 years old)...

Anyhow, it's cool to read your stories - hope mine didn't put you to sleep! Hope you both enjoy your birthdays! smile.gif

Heh, that's cool.

My story isn't interesting at all: I found the Metal Killers 2 compilation tape at an import bin at a local record store, since it had Zebra on it, along with several other bands I had heard of, and was interested in, like Waysted, Witchfinder General, "Destroyer" from Twisted Sister (hadn't heard the song yet at the time), etc. So I snagged it, loved "Friends of Hell", and got the tape from there. I also lucked out a year or two later in finding the silver vinyl edition of the album for only five bucks, but unfortunately I just recently lost it due to being behind in storage unit rent all these years and years later (probably never see one again either, or at least not at that price sad.gif). I also have the NWOBHM: '79 Revisited double cd with "Witchfinder General" on it, and I'll be getting their albums on cd soon, hopefully.

The end.

U.S. General- 10-13-2004
Hey guys, Im from Boston and have been a General fan since 82. I heard Soviet Invasion on a local radio metal show (WERS, Emerson College in Boston). I was blown away and drove 2 hours away to the only record shop in Mass, called Rockit Records that carried Metal imports. I bought it and also Death Penalty (clear vinyl). I was hooked bigtime!

A year later I stumbled on Friends of Hell in a Strawberries Records shop, pretty mainstream place. They had it under F, guess they thought Friends of Hell was the band name. Strange thing was it was it had no cover, just clear sleve and silver vinyl.

Personally I love Friends of Hell the best. My Fav tune is by far Soviet Invasion, kind of reminds me of Dirty Women (Sab). Builds and builds to a great solo at the end.

This travesty probably happened because of what was on the covers and the record stores didn't want to get in trouble by selling them to minors or something. The collectors market seems to be in a bit of a slump right now, so now's the time to pick up the rare versions of these great records.

I agree with ya... Soviet Invasion is an amazing track... I really LOVE Rabies also.. That was a fantastic EP.

I just wish someone would put out the rest of that live show from which they took R.I.P

I'm from stourbridge, i've been listening to witchfinder general awhile.. i actually didn't find out until pretty recently that they came from so close to home, which was interesting to say the least. I'm big into doom- so obviously I found out about Witchfinder General via that.. and ofcourse the great film!
Electric Wizard and Witchfinder General are probably my favourite bands along with Celtic Frost,Church of Misery,Black Sabbath!!
I just thought I'd say Hi and let Witchfinder General know that they have some fans back at home in Stourbridge/Kingswinford.

Greetings fellow generals!

Been into Witchfinder General since I heard them on Metal Inferno in 1990, then being about fifteen. I've since been playing with a number of bands (Nocturnal Rites, Therion etc) and I now have a new band going. We play real old school occult 70ies doom and are called Saturnalia Temple.

I am amazed of the fact that the guys are back together and I am eagerly looking forward to the album! Do come to Sweden if you go out on tour, I know a lot of people here who would show up wink.gif

So, I raise a great big pint for the guys and wish them all the best!

Cheers
