The WFG pool tournament was a great success and took place at PJ's pool hall, High St, Stourbridge on Friday 28th July; a fitting place as the band had played there some 26 years previously.
The scene was set - Phil and Rod [coke and corks] v [the Diablo all stars] Russ and Nick from San Francisco - England v USA. Amongst the many onlookers was founder member Steve Kinsell giving the lads his support with his rear end.
The best of 5 frames got under way with the band easily taking the first - the americans struggling with the UK's smaller cue ball and tighter pockets, but they soon got to grips with play and forced their way back in the game to equal the score 1-1.
The 3rd frame was scrappy as both sides were trying not to make mistakes; Nick and Russ trying the safety approach, which was working well until corks got a lucky break to put the band back in front 2-1.

Phil thought he had wrapped up the game in the 4th when he potted the black [9th] ball, only to see the cue ball roll into a different pocket giving the allstars a last frame decider.
It finished with a bit of class from Rod to give WFG a narrow victory over the visitors.
It was a fantastic night all round and thanks to Russ and Nick for making it possible.
Who knows perhaps in the near future we may be playing the return leg at your place????
