Today someone I hold in the highest esteem celebrates his Birthday. He has become a familiar name in our household and always puts a smile on our faces when we hear from him.
He, along with his brother Nick have followed the band since the early 80's relentlessly searching for anything to do with Witchfinder General. In 2005 Liam Hayes contacted him on our behalf and he travelled with his cousin Tommy to visit me with the thought of releasing a live album. On meeting I found him to be the most influential person I had ever met, bearing in mind that I have met some right bullsh***ing characters and barefaced liars in this crooked music business!!
Whilst on this visit he made me realise that I was with my perfect partner (beast) and in his presence we decided to announce our wedding date. Once again he and this time Nick travelled halfway around the globe to make our day even more special and one we will treasure forever.
Corky(Rod) and I got the better of the lads on the pool table to give England a 3:2 victory over the USA(still waiting for the re-match)!
Had it not been for this guy the Live '83 and the Buried Amongst the Ruins albums would still be on cassette tapes rotting in my basement. Together with Nick and Yosuke they gave us two brilliant vinyl albums and CDs, of which even Led Zeppelin would be proud.
It was this guy's support which changed the biggest regret of mine thus far into reality - to record the third Witchfinder General album. I am so proud that 'resurrected' is now being pressed and hopefully will soon be enjoyed around the world.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUSS!!Will throw a few Bathams' down in your honour later!!!
